We are a long established family bakery and have been trading in Hinckley for nearly 80 years.

On October 22nd. 1931 Mrs. Biddle converted a terraced house and opened a bakery at 50, Rugby Road, Hinckley. The first day`s takings were          £3-7s-6p. Since that day many changes have taken place.

Initially, the baking was done in small coal fired ovens producing a range of traditional goods. 1934 saw the erection of a purpose built bakery on this same site. Two large coke fired ovens were now installed and production increased. By 1947 Mrs. Biddle was ready to retire and her son Frank and his wife May took up the reins.  For many years they worked hard to increase trade whilst raising a family of ten children who all helped out at the bakery.

By 1984 the bakery was so busy that third generation Andrew and Mark Connor joined Frank and May in the family business. The bakery building was extended in 1986 with new electric ovens being installed, this enabled increased production capacity and the range of goods increased.  Outside catering also became one of the services available. Ten years later, after more than forty five years of early starts Frank and May deservedly retired. Sadly both have passed away in the intervening years and are greatly missed by all the family and many customers.

To-day Andrew, with Mark having retired through ill health, continues to produce a wide range of hand crafted bread, rolls and cakes using many of the recipes passed down through the years. Bread, produced using an “overnight sponge “method (this promotes increased nutritional value and helps to reduce harmful bacteria, naturally found in wheat, which can cause digestive problems) is moulded by  hand to give excellent eating qualities.  Everything from our own baked meat pies (Grandmother`s recipe) to wedding cakes (mother`s recipe) are all produced in the bakery, built all those years before by their grandfather. Also available is a large selection of celebration cakes (these can also be produced to the customers own design.) Also on offer is an excellent catering service which supplies superb food for all occasions, home or office.

Andrew and Mark now have many years baking experience and are proud to be members of The National Association of Master Bakers.  They would also like to take this opportunity of thanking all of our loyal customers for their support over all the years.

Presently, we at Connors Bakery still strive to keep standards high and although we are only a small concern,
this enables us to offer a  professional, friendly service to customers old and new.
Our staff have been with us for many years and provide excellent service.

Having recently reviewed our range of goods, we have introduced many new lines which are proving to be very popular. Of course we are still baking all of our customers favourites.
